Call for Artists - Greenpoint Open Studios (Oct. 1-3, 2010)
The Ugly Art Room Presents
(Brooklyn, NY)
Deadline: September 1, 2010
As part of GOS, The Ugly Art Room Presents: A Cinderella Story: From a Bomb to a Bombshell
A fire left 60 Greenpoint Ave a burnt out shell that was reconstructed by hand into Paulie Gee's. In a space disfigured by fire, a wood burning oven glows. Here, The Ugly Art Room will explore the battle between man and nature, how we thrive on what consumes us, the violence of beautification, the destruction of ugliness, and the paradox of transformation.
Themes include: fire, man versus nature, the glorification of the grotesque and the debasement of beauty.
Note: Critical attention is being paid to the interior design elements of the space as an important theme in the exhibit. Artist's are encouraged to visit the space for inspiration and to submit work that will reciprocally enhance the space. Warm tones, reclaimed wood, raw materials, concrete floors, exposed brick walls, high tin ceilings and hand crafted furniture are elements to consider when submitting work.
Opening Reception: 11pm, Friday, October 1, 2010
Exhibit Hours: 12-6pm, Saturday, October 2nd and Sunday, October 3rd
Location: Paulie Gee’s - 60 Greenpoint Ave, Brooklyn, NY
Submission Requirements: All original artwork will be considered in the form of photography, film, paintings, sculpture, collage and mixed-media. Artists must submit:
