FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
UGLY ART ROOM TO PRESENT FIVE ART EXHIBITS FOR NORTHSIDE OPEN STUDIOS
NOS is part of L Magazine’s Northside Festival (June 16-19, 2011)
Ugly Art Room (UAR) is a roving curatorial art project based in Brooklyn, New York. It seeks unusual and unique spaces to show art exhibits that challenge the "white box" gallery tradition and present work in consideration of its relationship to its environment physically, conceptually and historically. Ugly Art Room aims to continue building a growing network of local artists, businesses and community members who enjoy seeing local artwork exhibited in uncommon places.
UAR is excited to announce the following shows to be presented during NOS:
The Man, The Myth, The Moustache, a solo exhibition of Scott Chasse's paintings of Burt Reynold's at Brouwerij Lane (78 Greenpoint Ave) a Beer Store in Greenpoint, Brooklyn. Opening reception: Thursday, June 16, 8-10pm
Opening Rejection, as part of Williamsburg Walks, a 6' x 6' x 6' structure will be constructed on Bedford Avenue in Brooklyn and house the miniature works of 18 artists. Each artist will be given 5" x 5" wood panels pre-drilled with a hole in each. Completed works will be bolted to the interior walls of the "gallery" and the public will be welcomed to enter the cube to be a part of the unsettlingly awkward "opening rejection." Opening: June 18, 2011.
Noise Jam, an exhibit at The Gutter Brooklyn (200 No. 14th St), in which musicians participating in the Northside Music Festival will submit cell phone photos to explore the accessibility of experiences. Opening reception: June 16, 2011, 10pm-12am.
Cutters, a group exhibition at The Parlour Brooklyn (72 Greenpoint Ave) a hair salon in Greenpoint, Brooklyn. Opening reception: Saturday, June 18th, 2011, 8-10pm
Pull the Devil's Tail, a group exhibition of print-based work at the Greenpoint Church (136 Milton St). Guests will take turns to "pull the Devil's tail" on an antique iron hand press. Opening reception: Saturday, June 18th, 2011, 6-8pm.
